A bug in the trucks’ software is the reason for the recall, with incompatibility between the radio and camera causing the backup camera to not display properly when in use. This malfunction is not only inconvenient, but poses a serious safety risk for drivers. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that a rear-view display without an image reduces a driver’s view and increases the risk of a crash. Because the models listed above do not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards, they have been recalled.
