ram_.jpgStellantis, RAM’s parent company, has issued a massive recall of nearly 273,000 RAM trucks, with malfunctioning back-up cameras to blame. The following models are included:
  • RAM 1500 pickup trucks manufactured between June 25, 2021, and August 2, 2023
  • RAM 2500 pickup trucks manufactured between August 7, 2021, and August 27, 2023
  • RAM 3500 cab chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating below 10,000 pounds, manufactured between December 10, 2021, and June 27, 2023

A bug in the trucks’ software is the reason for the recall, with incompatibility between the radio and camera causing the backup camera to not display properly when in use. This malfunction is not only inconvenient, but poses a serious safety risk for drivers. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that a rear-view display without an image reduces a driver's view and increases the risk of a crash. Because the models listed above do not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards, they have been recalled.
